Somatic Experiencing (SE)

Traumatic experiences so often result in the dysregulation, or confusion, of one’s nervous system. Significant healing can occur when people can learn to re-regulate their own physiological or body responses to stress. Somatic Experiencing® is therapy designed to work with trauma to help clients learn to recognize and discharge their stuck fight/flight/freeze responses in a safe and supported way, without having to delve deep into retelling or reliving their stories. By focusing on the body’s responses and on helping clients stay safe and present in their experiences in the therapy room, an SE™ practitioner can help clients learn to overcome feelings of numbness or panic that so often results from trauma.
