All families are challenged by some problem or another at some time. Family problems can be range from severe stress or injury to more mild or temporary strains. Regardless of intensity, individual family members can experience significant pain and struggle when experiencing family troubles.
It is common for the hardship of one family member, such as loss, substance abuse, parenting issues, mental health concerns separation or divorce, illness, or major life changes, to impact and even cause struggle for other family members.
When families struggle to get along or feel helpless to support one another family members may become stressed and tension and resentment can grow. Over time family members may experience behaviour changes, difficulty with mood, and more frequent conflict.
Family therapy can provide family members with opportunities to better understand their own and each other’s emotions, express themselves in new ways, and strengthen family connections.
